The Goddess Laxmi, the consort of the Great God
Vishnu, is known to the whole world as the “Goddess
of Prosperity & Wealth”. With her auspicious
nature and reputation for granting fertility, luck,
wealth, and well being, it is not surprising that
she is regularly worshipped in every shop and home,
and especially during the festival of Diwali in
India. The Goddess Laxmi is believed to emerge
from the lustrous heart of the divine lotus. In
general, the lotus is the symbol of the entire
universe and fertility. Laxmi is worshipped as
the Goddess of prosperity and is also known as
the kindest goddess of all.
The fertility of Goddess Laxmi is always represented
as a dignified lady seated on a lotus, showered
with sacred water by elephants around her and
a river of gold streaming forth from her hand.
