His name is highly respected.
His honour is invaluable. In Chinese history,
he is known as “The Founding Father of China”.
In the West he is admired as the most important
figure of Chinese history in the twentieth century.
He is Dr. Sun Yat-Sen, a man who fought for a
brighter China, a great nationalist, and a brave
patriot.
Born to a peasant family in 1866, Sun Yat-Sen
had devoted his lifelong unrivalled endeavor to
peace and unity of the Chinese people, based on
his own political ideals called the Three Principles
of the People —nationalism, democracy and
equalisation, designed to create an independent,
democratic, and prosperous China. Witnessing the
weakness of the Ching Dynasty, the hardships of
the Chinese people, and the encroachment on China
by foreign powers, Dr. Sun Yat-Sen decided to
engage in revolutionary activities to overthrow
the Manchu rulers of the Ching Dynasty. Under
his leadership, the revolutionary organisations
unified patriotic countrymen and gained big support
from overseas Chinese.
For over twenty years, he struggled untiringly
to bring a nationalist and democratic revolution
to China. Finally, he triumphed with the establishment
of the Chinese Republic in 1912 with him as president.
Sacrificing his whole life to unify his motherland,
Dr. Sun Yat-Sen passed away of illness at the
age of 60. The last words he left, “Strive
for peace! Save China!” aroused eternal
mourning and respect among all Chinese people.
