With its massive 650-pound weight and beautiful
black striped fur, the tiger was once seen throughout
large parts of the world especially in the tropical
forest of Asia. The roar of this hunter of the wild
has always brought fear to humans and animals alike
who invaded its realm.
Due to the value of the Tiger fur, which was
and is still highly demanded throughout the world
and the need for Tiger bone as a medicine in China
in the late 19th century, the Tiger has been severely
hunted by humans. The population of the King of
the Asian rain forest has dramatically decreased.
Three sub-species of the Tiger are already extinct
from the world. At present, only a small population
of four to six thousand of this splendid animal
is left in the world.
To create awareness to the whole world of the
serious threat the Tiger is facing, and as a request
of the Royal Society for Protection of Nature,
The Mayer Mint – Germany has minted the
world-class numismatic commemorative coin of the
Tiger under the “Endangered Species Series”.
The treasure is issued by the Royal Monetary Authority
of the Kingdom of Bhutan.
