"Ask not what your country can do for you--ask
what you can do for your country." was the
most memorable line from the inaugural address of
John F. Kennedy that immortalized him to people
all over the world. He was the 35th president of
the USA, the country’s youngest ever elected
president, and unfortunately, the youngest president
to die, while in office.
Having graduated from Harvard College, he began
his political life in the House of Representatives,
then in the Senate. His administration thus was
the beginning of new hope for both equal rights
advocates of Americans and peacekeepers of the
world. The Enforcement of civil rights laws, nuclear
weapon test ban treaties and Peace Corps more
than solidified his dedication to the revolution
of human rights.
He also won a Pulitzer Prize from the book “Profiles
in Courage”, about Americans who had taken
unpopular but moral stands. Though his time in
office was brief, JFK’s charisma, popular
appeal, and ultimately, tragic assassination have
established him as one of the most compelling
figures of the 20th century.
The Mayer Mint - Germany issued the John F. Kennedy
commemorative coin product line as one of the
Champions for Peace series, as a tribute to his
contribution to world peace and freedom.
